Legislative Affairs

The Angola Area Chamber of Commerce's role in local, state, and national Legislative Issues is firmly that of an information conduit. The AACoC does not endorse any candidate or political party; rather, our place is to disseminate factual information to the community on the status of government affairs and legislative updates, and during election years, to provide forums for candidates to speak on those issues.

In line with this mission, the Chamber coordinates Meet the Candidates events for both the Primary as well as the General Elections during election years. The format of the Meet the Candidates is structured to give equal opportunity to candidates in contested races to speak on the issues in an structured and nonpartisan event. Questions are solicited from the community weeks prior to the MTC event, and the Issues Committee selects the questions best representative of the ones submitted, and provides them to the candidates in advance of the forum. A neutral moderator paces the forum, and each candidate gets an equal amount of time to answer (usually 2-3 minutes). In addition to the Q&A portion of the event, there is also an informal Meet & Greet with all candidates, regardless if they are in a contested race.

We will post relevant legislative updates when the Indiana House and Senate are in session.
